INTERNATIONAL GIRL CHILD DAY “IGCD 22”

KIF Ghana Celebrates International Girl Child Day

KIF Ghana with support from Centre for Active Citizenship and Leadership organized an IGCD on 11th October 2022.  Since 19 December 2011, this day has been celebrated as an “International Day of the Girl Child” or just “International Girls’ Day”. In the UN General Assembly, a resolution was passed which declared October 11 as a day to honor the girls.

The event took place on 11th October 2022 in Kumasi Island of Patmos D/A JHS, the girls were taken through a series of talks based on the theme “Our Time is Noe – Our Rights, Our Future.

In throwing more light on children’s rights, they were made to understand the things that constitute to their rights being the rights to a healthy childhood, the right to be educated, the rights to be heard, the rights to be treated fairly, the right to be heard.

They were also taking through some challenges adolescent girls face such as: Child and Forced Marriage, Early pregnancy, Sexual and gender-based violence, abuse and exploitation, Limited opportunities for education etc.

There were talks on how to keep good personal hygiene and the effect of hygiene on our social interactions. Society expect us to be clean. Good hygiene allows us to interact with other people more positively. It can be unpleasant to be in close contact with someone who has bad breath or body odor.

Proper hygiene demonstrates that you take care of and value yourself. Plus, it’s respectful to others to present yourself in a tidy manner. Poor hygiene, on the other hand, can result in social rejection.

Speakers Include Ms Priscilla Aninnwaa Oware – National Chairperson KIF Ghana who also doubles as the Executive Director Centre for Active Citizenship and Leadership, Mrs. Benedict Twumwaa Afari, the Head Mistress of Island of Patmos D/A JHS, Mrs. Vida Osei Agyeman National Secretary KIF Ghana.
